Metaphors
- Horoscopes (chinese / european)
- Verbal, in common usage, for example, Frankenstein foods.
TRAPS!
When usings a metaphor it is important to ensure that the limits to the metaphor are appreciated. Metaphors are incomplete, abstract simplifications of 'reality' and as such may present 'traps' in application through inappropriate assumptions or abstractions upon which the metaphor is based. The Systemic analyst - Juggler METAPHOR
When conducting a systemic intervention, there are four interdependent 'balls' that must be kept in the air:- manage (the practitioner must manage their engagement in a situation)
- engage (as an analyst, be explicit in your approach to the situation)
- contextualise (get into the situation, appreciate the circumstances, adopt a certain approach)
- being (being a systemic practitioner, realise your impact on the situation, embodiment realisation and ethics of our action)
Interpersonal skills
Interpersonal Action Learning Cycle (IALC)
The cornerstones of the IALC are:- My understanding
- My receptiveness
- My own reflections
Provides an approach that can be used to foster autonomy through personal techniques such as:
- Making 'I' statements.
- Active listening.
- Using welcoming (offer receptiveness - 'your views are welcome')
- Giving up blame
- Give up trying to change others
- Offering feedback instead if criticism
- Autonomy supporting conversations - absence of interruption, taking personal responsibility)
